Lights Out is a study aiming to understand the relationships between the combined use of alcohol with other substances (cannabis, nicotine), sleep, and blackouts in young adults. Participants will wear a wrist-worn alcohol sensor and an Oura ring and complete daily and in-the-moment surveys about their substance use and sleep behaviors and outcomes for 14 consecutive days.

The goals of Lights out are to:

  • (1) Examine temporal patterns of combined substance use and their impact on blackouts.
  • (2) Examine the relationships between sleep, combined substance use, and blackout risk.

Study Status: Recruitment will begin in Fall 2025.
